Nude photos of more than A-list celebrities, including Jennifer Lawrence, have been leaked online after reports suggest an anonymous hacker was able to gain access to Apple's online storage system, iCloud. A 4Chan user posted the trove of photos Sunday night, writing the celebrities were in "various states of undress" in the images. On Monday morning, many of the celebrities were shooting back against the alleged hack. But the spokesperson had sharp words for anyone thinking about posting the photos. Lawyers for Upton, a model and actress, had similar comments saying they "intend to pursue anyone disseminating or duplicating these illegally obtained images to the fullest extent possible. Winstead took to Twitter to voice her anger about the possibility of people looking at her personal photos. To those of you looking at photos I took with my husband years ago in the privacy of our home, hope you feel great about yourselves.

Having commited the crime of being an outspoken women's rights advocate, people now claim to have nude selfies of Watson, which they are prepared to leak—out of vengeance, I guess? Maybe the voracious appetites of the crotch-pounders on Reddit and 4chan have given the media grainy-boob-shot fatigue. After all, stealing the dark, badly framed snapshots people take in haste to communicate "I'm horny" to their significant others isn't exactly like stealing their polished boudoir pictures. In fact, it's a step above stealing their chest X-rays and jerking off to the nipple outlines. I talked to Cubrilovic about how these photos get stolen. At first I thought we would be discussing who's to blame when these diabolical photo leaks occur, but during our conversation I learned more than I ever thought I would about cloud storage.
On August 31, , a collection of almost private pictures of various celebrities, mostly women, and with many containing nudity , were posted on the imageboard 4chan , and later disseminated by other users on websites and social networks such as Imgur and Reddit. The images were initially believed to have been obtained via a breach of Apple 's cloud services suite iCloud , [1] [2] or a security issue in the iCloud API which allowed them to make unlimited attempts at guessing victims' passwords. The event, which media outlets and internet users referred to under names such as the "fappening" a portmanteau of "fap", a slang term for masturbation , and " happening " and "Celebgate", was met with a varied reaction from the media and fellow celebrities. Critics felt that the distribution of the images was a major invasion of privacy for their subjects, while some of the allegedly depicted subjects denied their authenticity. The leak also prompted increased concern from analysts surrounding the privacy and security of cloud computing services such as iCloud—with a particular emphasis on their use to store sensitive, private information. The images were obtained via the online storage offered by Apple 's iCloud platform for automatically backing up photos from iOS devices, such as iPhones.
